Tips For Maintaining Your Rain Gutters

Posted on

It is important to make sure that your rain gutters are well maintained in order to avoid trouble with your foundation or roof. To help you do this, you will want to read through the following tips.

Keep The Debris Out Of The Gutters

One way or another, you have to make sure that you are keeping the debris out of the gutters. There are a few ways to do this, such as hiring someone to do the job for you, but that can be expensive over time since they will have to keep coming back. You can also do it yourself by climbing a ladder and manually removing every last bit of debris from your rain gutters. You can also look online or in your local hardware store for rain gutter cleaning tools. Some companies are now manufacturing tools that are long enough to reach the gutters while you remain safely on the ground. These tools are designed to help you grab twigs and leaves, as well as spraying down the inside of the gutters after the debris has been removed.

Install A Screen Over The Gutters

The main problem that people experience with their gutters is the build up of debris, which then can cause a build up of water because it cannot escape through the gutters and down through the drain pipe. You either have to make sure that you are cleaning the gutters a few times a year or you can prevent the build up of debris right from the start. There are screen covers that can be attached to the top of your gutters. The screen will allow water to enter the gutters so the foundation will continue to be protected, but the debris will not be able to collect in the gutters. The most you might have to do is use your garden hose to spray off the top of the screen to remove any small twigs that might not have fallen off of the screen.

Upgrade To The Seamless Gutters

Sometimes, you simply have to upgrade to a better quality of gutters in order to keep things as nice and clean as possible. The seamless gutters are easy to clean due to their finish and they do not have any seams that will allow debris to get stuck. While you might still want to spray down the seamless gutters once or twice a year, it will not be as much of a struggle as it would be if you kept the gutters with all of the seams in them.

With just those few tips in mind, you should have little trouble maintaining your house gutters. Contact local professionals, such as those from Fibergutter, for further assistance.
